New Haval H6 goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Haval has officially launched the facelifted H6 in South Africa, bringing a fresh look and an expanded feature list to the popular SUV series.

The new H6 is available in seven specifications, including the flagship GT plug-in hybrid, and prices start at R495,500.

Engines

The updated Haval is sold with one of three powertrains, starting with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol plant good for 170kW and 380Nm.

Gear changes are handled by a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic shifter, and buyers can choose either a front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration.

The FWD units have an average fuel consumption of 7.4l/100km, while the AWD units consume 8.3l/100km.

If fuel efficiency is a concern, you can look to the HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) models, which pair a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a small electric motor.

The electrical assistance helps to improve efficiency while also boosting the H6’s power, as the HEV can tap into 179kW and 530Nm.

It is only available in FWD and uses a dedicated hybrid transmission, the combination of which results in an economy figure of 5.2l/100km.

At the top of the range is the new H6 GT plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which uses the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in tandem with a substantially more powerful e-motor.

The e-motor is charged via a 34.5kWh battery and helps the PHEV to achieve an impressive 321kW and 762Nm.

This is enough to let the GT race to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, putting it in the same bracket as several performance cars.

The large battery also means the PHEV can travel for 180km on nothing but electricity, which contributes towards a total driving range of just over 1,000km.

Haval claims the GT has an average fuel usage of 0.8l/100km, but this assumes that you will use the electric drive mode for the vast majority of your trips.

Features

The facelifted H6 has received a considerable makeover, starting with a sleek chrome grille and a reworked set of LED headlights with vertical daytime running lights.

It also has a new set of dark 19-inch alloy wheels, and the back end has ditched the singular taillight bar in favour of two large LED clusters.

Customers can also choose one of four exterior colours comprising Noble Gold, Ayers Gray, Hamilton White, and Sun Black.

The H6 range is split into three trim levels – Luxury, Super Luxury, and Ultra Luxury, which determine the equipment sheet.

The base Luxury comes with rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, a 50W wireless phone charger, leatherette upholstery, a six-way electronically adjustable drivers seat, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, eight speakers, and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands.

It also features a driver assistance suite with adaptive cruise control, traction control, hill assist, tyre pressure monitoring, a speed limiter, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a 540-degree camera.

The higher-end models will then add a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, a heated leatherette steering wheel, stainless steel sill plates, heated and ventilated front seats with memory settings, a nine-speaker stereo, a heads-up display, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an automated parking assistant.
